Painting the Portrait from Life is an intensive
workshop that introduces students to the traditional method
used in portrait painting.
The course focuses on preparatory studies and drawing and
students will work to bring the painting to a finish.
A series of demos spread throughout the course will explain
the working process starting with drawing and an explanation
of proportions, planes of the head and designing shadow shapes.
Once a likeness has been achieved, students will begin the
painting stages: dead colouring, first and second painting,
as well as, final glazing and toning. In addition, students
will receive individual and group critiques and lectures on
materials and processes.

Reservations are recommended as student numbers are purposely
limited to allow for a high degree of individual attention.
